Driftwood Sculptures
"I like to walk up and down the beach looking at each piece of driftwood and when I find one that has lot's of curves and unique shapes I can start to see the carving begin to appear." Artist / Matt Holmes
These one of kind sculptures are carved from driftwood the Artist has collected along the beautiful West Coast Beaches (Northern California). What makes these pieces so wonderful is that each piece has it's own shape and unique curves which allows the carving to appear in the wood "I like to walk up and down the beaches looking at each piece of driftwood and when I find one that has lot's of curves and unique shapes I can start to see the carving begin to appear. Once I start to see the carving start to appear I know that piece will become something beautiful." Artist / Matt Holmes
Before                                After
This almighty buffalo was carved from a redwood root that was pulled off of Santa Cruz's main beach. Every big winter storm brings these beautiful pieces of driftwood down the river and onto the beach.  You can see the buffalo's beard at the bottom right corner of the before picture. That is where I saw the buffalo in that piece of driftwood. That is where the carving started.
